What will be covered at the workshop:

The essentials of what data is and:

  • How do you make sure that data is ‘robust’?
  • Where can you go to find relevant data from others?
  • Are you collecting data in a way that’s suitable for comparison?
  • How do you work with data at all stages from collection to analysis to presentation?

The training will also share some common pitfalls and how to avoid them when using data. You’ll be able to understand how to draw conclusions and identify the limitations of your data and how you can effectively communicate your findings.

Who is this workshop for?

This is an introductory training session for anyone who wants to explore the role of data in shaping services or influencing others.

Why is understanding data useful for your charity?

Data isn’t just about numbers and statistics; it’s about asking the right questions of the valuable information at your disposal, so that you can best meet the needs of the people you support. We know small charities are capturing useful data all the time, so are local authorities, national government, big charities and companies. Both your own data and that of others can help you to understand why your interventions work, ensure policy makers listen and prevent you being overlooked for vital funds. Ultimately it helps you make the right decisions by spotting problems before they happen and identifying solutions in ever changing political and socio-economic conditions.
